Frequently Asked Questions

How exactly does this work?

Tweet-a-Beer is powered by Chirpify, a commerce platform for Twitter. Chirpify is the magic that connects your Twitter account to PayPal in order to pre-approve payments. When you Tweet-a-Beer, you are sending $5.00 to another Twitter user, and ultimately, their PayPal account.

How do I send a beer?

Follow the steps to authenticate your Twitter account with Chirpify. Then “pre-approve” Chirpify to send PayPal payments on your behalf. After this you can use the app to choose the @recipient (on Twitter), send them a beer ($5), and add a reason, meeting place, or requests for the juke box. Once submitted, the recipient will receive a tweet mention from you with a link leading them to details on how to claim the beer money.

How do I redeem a beer?

Click the Tweet-a-Beer link mentioned in the tweet. The “Claim Beer Money” button will run you through the Tweet-a-Beer authentication process. The redemption process mirrors the account set-up pattern above, effectively pre-approving Chirpify to deposit money into your PayPal account. You will then be set up to pay-it-forward and start tweeting beers to others, too.

Terms of Service:

All usage of Tweet-a-Beer is in conjunction with the Terms of Service agreements of our partners:

Do you save my information?

No. Tweet-a-Beer authenticates anonymously through Twitter and PayPal to allow transactions. At no time do we have access to any of your personal information, emails, or passwords. More anonymous than a one-night stand during a blackout. See Privacy Policy for more info on what is stored.

Can I logout?

Yes! After each session, we allow you to log out, preventing your house cat from making unwanted Tweet-a-Beer purchases. Note that money will still be accessible from your account and other Twitter apps and services. For ultimate security, use the "Secure Logout" option to revoke Chirpify's permission to tweet money on your behalf. You can reconnect services again at a later date. Revoking permission is not permanent.

Who are you, anyway?

We’re tenfour and Waggener Edstrom. We're sitting in the darkened corner of the bar. Behind you.

Can I send more than $5.00?

Hey, big spender. Send as many beers as you’d like. For security purposes (we're looking at you, college kids), we limit each transfer to $5.00, so you'll have to send one at a time.

What if the recipient doesn’t have a PayPal account?

Recipients will receive a follow-up tweet mention to remind them to collect their money by registering with Chirpify.

What’s the fee?

The recipient’s PayPal account will be charged a small fee of 20¢ to cover Chirpify’s fee. Any subsequent PayPal fees will depend on the type of account held. Read more about fees for Chirpify and PayPal, if that's your thing. And dude, before you start taking swings, let us assert that tenfour and Waggener Edstrom receive no revenue from Tweet-a-Beer. We made this thing because we're thirsty.

My transaction isn't going through. What gives?

Make sure the beer recipient has a 'confirmed email address.' To do this, log into your PayPal account. Find "Confirm e-mail address" under Notifications to the right. Click on that link. Expect lightning or something less.

Look out for a personal tweet mention from @chirpify with help/guidance if an error has occurred.

Why do I need to accept your cookies?

Tweet-a-Beer needs your cookies turned on so that we can connect you to Twitter and Chirpify. Unfortunately, the application won't work without it. Fortunately, our cookies are scrumptious.

What if I don’t want beer money from someone?

You can decline/refund the $5.00 through PayPal or simply ignore the Tweet. Better yet, donate it to a good cause.

What if I don’t/can’t drink?

No alcohol is transferred through Tweet-a-Beer. Tweet-a-Beer is safe for all ages.

Do I actually tweet a beer?

No. We haven't figured out a way to transport liquid through the Internet. Tweet-a-Beer allows you to send $5.00 to a friend, loosely earmarked for beer. He can decline the $5.00, or he can accept and use it for whatever. (But seriously, we recommend using it for beer, because it's beer.)

Will Tweet-a-Beer work on [my device name]?

Tweet-a-Beer has been tested on many devices, but depending on which one you're looking at, you may think you're wearing beer goggles. Let us put your mind at ease.
